Construction Presses on at SRIC, the University of Toronto’s Newest Flagship Innovation Hub

As Toronto continues to gain momentum as an international tech hub, construction presses on at the Schwartz Reisman Innovation Centre West (SRIC)—University of Toronto’s newest flagship centre for innovation and entrepreneurship.

SRIC represents the first of a two-phase development, at one of the city’s most prominent intersections, that will establish an incubator for startup companies and researchers in the fields of AI and other emergent technologies.

The building will tactfully break the typology of a typical commercial tower by introducing two double height wintergardens on the south and north façades. These communal lounge and event spaces will be visible in the articulated cuts of the building façade, and will provide panoramic views to College Street and the historic Parliament buildings at Queen’s Park.

While the façade of the SRIC appears repetitious, it is comprised of parametrically derived precast panels that shift to accommodate the taper of the building’s form, and the repetition of custom, high-performance window units.
