This new Student Services Building at Morgan State University creates a welcoming new entry into the MSU Campus. Morgan State is officially designated as Maryland’s preeminent public urban research university, and is one of the country’s largest designated “Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs)”, serving not only Baltimore, but the entire state of Maryland and the US. The design is intended to make strong connections between the city of Baltimore as a whole and the University. The architecture shapes a natural flow between the City and the campus, welcoming people into the University via a new landscaped entry plaza, which connects to the University’s main landscaped Mall. This flow continues into the building, connecting students to key services along a natural pathway. Community services serving the wider community are situated at the primary corner at the joint between the University and the community, providing community members of all ages with a wide variety of educational and recreational programs.
